Let God Be God

A short reflection on surrender, trust, and faithful leadership at home.

There comes a point when a man has to admit something hard:

Trying to control everything is exhausting.

Not because he does not care.
Not because he is weak.
But because he was never created to sit on God’s throne.

As husbands, fathers, and providers, it is easy to confuse responsibility with control. We want to protect our families. We want to fix the problems. We want to make the money work, the plans succeed, the future feel safe, and the pressure finally lift.

But sometimes our grip gets so tight that we stop walking by faith and start trying to force outcomes by fear.

I have been guilty of that.

I have tried to force abundance.
I have tried to create prosperity from my own might.
I have tried to break past ceilings by striving harder, thinking harder, planning harder, and carrying more than God ever asked me to carry alone.

But the truth is simple:

God is God.
I am not.

And that is not bad news.

That is freedom.

When I try to control everything, I do not just wear myself down. I can also rob others of the chance to build their own faith in God. My wife has her own walk with Him. My children will have their own walk with Him. My family does not need me to be God for them.

They need me to trust God in front of them.

I know the Lord is with me.
I know He has carried me.
I know He has given me miracles I did not deserve.
I know He has been faithful when I could not see the way forward.

And I know this life is not the end.

One day, when this life is over, I will be with the Lord. I will see Hailey again. The pain that once felt final will be swallowed up by the goodness of God.

So today, I am done trying to force what only God can give.

I will work faithfully.
I will lead faithfully.
I will love my family faithfully.
But I will not make fear my master.

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

I will let God be God.

And I will keep my faith in Him.

Scripture

“Be still, and know that I am God.”
— Psalm 46:10

“As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
— Joshua 24:15

Prayer

Father,
I release my need to control everything.
Forgive me for trying to carry what belongs in Your hands.
Teach me to trust You with my family, my work, my future, my provision, and my calling.
Help me lead my house by faith, not fear.
You are God alone.
As for me and my house, we will serve You.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
